I started MDG Computer Services in 1988, building custom software for small businesses around the Chicago area. In 2005, I took that eCommerce experience and pivoted into mobile broadband, launching 3Gstore — which became 5Gstore in 2019 as the industry shifted. We’ve spent two decades helping businesses stay connected with cellular routing, failover, and fulfillment for the top IoT brands.
Along the way, 5Gstore picked up customer support awards from StellaService, and we got featured as a case study in Seth Godin’s Meatball Sundae on how to do support right. I’ve been fortunate to partner with the manufacturers you’d expect in this space — Peplink, Cradlepoint, Inseego, Digi, Sierra Wireless, and others.
This site is the personal side of things — where I write about everything I’m working on outside the day job: iOS and macOS development, AI tricks, web development, and the tips and workarounds that make technology more useful. Most of what shows up here is stuff I had to figure out the hard way, written down so the next person doesn’t have to.
I’m based in Fountain Hills, Arizona, with part-time time in Thornton, Colorado.
